How to Convert Temperatures
Temperature is a fundamental physical quantity that measures the average kinetic energy (motion) of particles in a substance. In simple terms, it tells us how hot or cold something is.
When particles move faster, the temperature is higher; when they move slower, the temperature is lower. This energy is not visible to the eye, but we experience it through sensations of heat and cold.
Conversion Formulas between Celsius (°C), Fahrenheit (°F), Kelvin (K), and Rankine (°R)
Celsius ↔ Fahrenheit
°F = (°C × 1.8) + 32
°C = (°F - 32) × 5/9
Celsius ↔ Kelvin
K = °C + 273.15
°C = K - 273.15
Celsius ↔ Rankine
°R = (°C + 273.15) × 1.8
°C = (°R - 491.67) × 5/9
Fahrenheit ↔ Kelvin
K = (°F - 32) × 5/9 + 273.15
°F = (K - 273.15) × 1.8 + 32
Fahrenheit ↔ Rankine
°R = °F + 459.67
°F = °R - 459.67
°R = K × 1.8
K = °R ÷ 1.8
Celsius ↔ Réaumur
°Ré = °C × 0.8
°C = °Ré ÷ 0.8
